FRP Benefits - Plasticair

Frequently Asked Questions

Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) is a composite material that provides superior corrosion resistance in demanding corrosive environments while also providing superior, light weight, mechanical strength which can benefit most exhaust applications. Alternate materials such as painted steel or aluminum typically fail due to coating failures on metal bends or where fasteners are applied. Furthermore, the slightest of impacts usually occur during shipping, installation and/or regular maintenance. FRP is impact resistant and the resin providing the corrosion resistance is throughout the complexed geometrical shapes that make-up exhaust fans, high plume fans, acid scrubbers and ductwork.

Plasticair Fan Company offers the following fan types: FRP SWSI in direct drive and belt drive, FRP Mixed-flow duct mount and roof top mount, FRP Vane Axial duct mount and roof top mount, FRP Inline centrifugal duct mount and roof top mount, FRP Perchloric Acid Exhaust Systems Venturi induction type with fan out of the airstream,  FRP high pressure exhaust fans with static pressure up to 50” W.G., FRP Panel fan construction.

FRP constructed fans will not see a deteriorating effect when exposed to acids such as Perchloric

Fiberglass Fans as built by Plasticair Fan Company will withstand Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) and Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) and give a standard equipment life under acid fume environments

Plasticair Environmental Scrubber Fume hoods are typically designed for 96% acid removal, however, designs up to 99% removal can be available for facilities that are heavy acid users.

Fiberglass or FRP constructed HVAC equipment provide a lot of value for areas that are coastal and experience corrosion attack from the sea. We, at Plasticair, and all its divisions, believe reliability is not only about the warranty period, and reliability should extend throughout the life of the equipment. When products start rusting, such as products using painted alloys, the engineered mechanical strength that the product has been designed to when brand new will be based on equipment that is not yet exposed to rust. When you look at equipment for critical applications, such as Laboratory Exhaust, we, at SKYPLUME technologies believe products need to maintain durability and integrity throughout the equipment life.

All divisions under Plasticair, offer full explosion proof versions of our FRP products and systems.

Yes, explosion proof construction pertains to the specification of the electrical enclosures that need to meet the site area designation as deemed by the local authority if so designated to be potentially an explosive risk. Spark proof construction is relating to manufacturers designing equipment, such as exhaust fans to not spark if an impact occurs. Further, spark proof construction would also address designing to eliminate static charge build up through grounding processes.

Plasticair, within all its divisions, prides itself on meeting customer requirements no matter how unusual the requirements might be. Custom options can be offered for our Fiberglass Exhaust Fans, Fiberglass High Plume Fans, Fiberglass Energy Recovery systems and also our Wet Scrubber Systems. Other products such as perchloric acid systems and also be customized in height and also fitted with sound attenuation.  We offer custom heights and colors to our silencer stack systems as well.
